Before I get to the meme, I saw this on
fandomcalendar and had to share: We Love the Women that the Fandom Hates. Pick your favorite unfairly maligned female character and creatively express your appreciation! (And it's running in multiple languages, too, which is cool.)
6. When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
Ooh, this is a tough one for me. I like writing male characters, but I've been told by multiple betas and workshop participants that I'm not as good at it as I think I am, particularly when I'm trying to get inside their minds. So when I use a male POV, it's usually a character who has enough in common with me in other respects to disguise those flaws. And when I write romance in particular, I tend to use a female lead because multiple attempts to question my boyfriend on what it's like to fall in love from a male perspective have not yielded much useful data. Lots of attempts to demonstrate non-verbally (which, don't get me wrong, are totally appreciated), but not so much with the explanations.
